South West Restaurateurs

Caroline Bennett represents restaurateurs on the Invest in Fish South West Steering Group. In the past, most restaurateurs were simply too busy to know much about fish other than its species and price.

Invest in Fish South West is a partnership of restaurateurs, commercial and recreational fishermen, retailers, processors, environmental and conservation groups and statutory agencies who believe that the region's fisheries could be managed more sustainably. In the past these groups have worked in silos and with different agendas, resulting in competing voices which are ultimately working towards the same goal. Inspired by the WWF Choose or Lose report which called for decisive steps to protect fish stocks, these groups decided to join forces to work towards sustaining fish stocks. Their aim as part of Invest in Fish is to establish the economic case for managing fisheries on a regional basis. Invest in Fish South West is working with experts to establish a more balanced method of managing fisheries.
