Invest in Fish Goes Global

The sustainable fisheries management project Invest in Fish South West reached a global audience at the European Seafood Exposition in Brussels last week.

Mike Barry, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Marks & Spencer and a member of the Invest in Fish South West Steering Group explained, “Brussels enabled us to take the Invest in Fish concept to a European audience and beyond.  From a retailers point of view Invest in Fish is at the heart of fisheries management worldwide.  It was great to be able to show case the project at such a key global seafood exhibition.”

UK regional initiative pushes sustainability at world’s largest seafood expo

Invest in Fish South West, a project which aims to deliver a sustainable future for the fishing industry in the south-west of England, is heading to Brussels in May to showcase its initiative to representatives from the European Commission, UK government, NGO’s and retailers at the European Seafood Exposition. The project will hold a cocktail reception at the South of England stand .“This is a very exciting time for the project and the show will provide us with an opportunity to share our progress and hopefully gain the support of important decision-makers in the European Commission,” says Heather Squires, Project Manager for Invest in Fish South West.

EU Fisheries Committee visit hailed a success by IiFSW

"Not only did the trip give MEPs and other guests an insider's view to the fishing industry, but it also allowed them to talk to people on the frontline. The crew on the Cornishmen enjoyed having them aboard and appreciated the fact that the MEPs were genuinely interested in what they had to say," says Spike Searle, liaison officer for Invest in Fish South West.

EU Fisheries Committee on fish fact-finding tour in Cornwall

Invest in Fish South West will host the European Parliament Fisheries Committee visit to the home
of UK’s largest fishing fleet on the 13th September 2005. The Committee will stop over in the
fishing village of Newlyn as part of a fact finding tour.

New angle - South West recreational Anglers contribute significantly to the region's economy

Sea angling in the South West of England generates £165 million of revenue each year - £110 million of this from resident anglers and £55 million from visiting anglers – and the activity supports more than 3,000 jobs according to a new report released today by Invest in Fish South West.
